I had the pleasure this weekend of being a part of the engagement of Randy and Kirsten, an absolutely beautiful couple. I love taking pictures of people in love, it was evident by the looks on their faces just how much they cared for each other - from their smiles, to their laughter to the way their eyes just lit up. There's a certain magic to being in the presence of two people that are in love and with these two, there was definite magic. Meet Heather, one of the winners for the Greybrook Giveaway that occurred at Christmas; her friend Christie nominated her for her breast cancer journey and the inspiration that she has been throughout it. This weekend I had the honour of meeting Heather and sharing in a part of her journey towards recovery - together, with her husband Bryce, her little dog Stella and a couple of friends that were their for emotional support, we took pictures of this beautiful family. Throughout the afternoon, we captured an array of portraits and more personal images of Heather to capture her beauty and show her strength that she has displayed day after day through adversity. This sneak peak includes the less personal pictures of the afternoon we shared together - I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed being a part of this story.

One of the greatest joys of being a photographer is capturing special moments in people's lives - this joy is only enhanced by the relationships with the people in the pictures. The following session was one that was very special for me, as this family of five are very near and dear to my heart. It was in 2007 that I met these amazing people through working with their son and brother, Simon. There is a saying that says that some people come into our lives and go quickly while others stay a while, leave footprints on our hearts and because of it, we'll never be the same. That perfectly describes what this family has come to mean to me, for I can honestly say that without the 'footprints' their son left on my heart, I probably would have never pursued a career in social work. So I hope you enjoy these pictures that were captured on a trip up to Edmonton to visit them, after my husband and I spent the day with them, running around the Science Centre and getting buzzed up on sugar at dinner, we took these pictures - as you will see, they were full of giggles and laughter. Enjoy!

Over a year ago now, my husband served served in a tour of duty in Afghanistan and although our life as a military family is now behind us - our men and women in uniform will always hold a special place in my heart. During his time overseas, a photograph was captured of him and his warrant on patrol and since that date, it has appeared in newspapers across the country, from the Edmonton Journal to the Montreal Gazette; however, despite endless searching, I was unable to get a print copy of it. A month ago, friends in British Columbia recognizing the picture, mailed us the article you see below. I cannot even say how proud I am of my husband for his service and of our Canadian forces for the difference they have made in Afghanistan - thank-you.

How many times does a photographer get the chance to photograph one of their best friends? Well today I got to have that opportunity as my dear friends Serena and Fraser celebrated their engagement with an evening session. Serena - we've known each other for thirteen years and it is an absolute pleasure for all of us to see you start this amazing journey with your husband-to-be, Fraser. So, unbelievably happy for you girl!

This evening, we were chased by lightning, rain and mosquito's to three different locations but all in all, I must say, it was a beautiful night. A special note to say thank-you to my amazing assistant Vanessa, who made everyone smile, fended off the bugs and kept the equipment dry - you are awesome!

Today I had the pleasure of seeing Michael, Amanda, Nicholas and Emmett - an absolutely beautiful family of four. The first time I met this family, there were just the three of them and 'Baby Boy Briggs' was just a month away from being being born. Then along came Emmett and from there came what seems to be everyone's favorite picture - the adorable little baby in the basket. Today - that family of four has grown as that cute little baby that fit all curled up and sleeping in the basket, is now eight months old! This session is particularly special to me - not only was the family fun to work with and the weather absolutely beautiful, but they are another military family. I met Lisa at work and it was not long after that we found out that we had something very meaningful in common. As many of you know, my husband and I went through deployment not even a year ago as he served a tour of duty in Afghanistan. Well - Lisa's son Jeff is another hero behind a uniform and this brave young man is deploying in June to serve our country. There is something very humbling about meeting members of our Canadian Armed Forces and their families because these are the people that stand up for our country and the people that stand proudly behind them. Jeff - we will be praying for you everyday until you return home safely and we thank-you for your service. God bless you.
